Western nations want chain 'the Russian bear' - Putin

Putin used the vivid metaphor of a “chained bear” during his annual Q&A session with the media in Moscow in response to a question about whether he believed that the troubles of the Russian economy were payback for the reunification with Crimea.


The Russian president said that even if “the Russian bear” stopped “chasing pigs around the forest and turned to eating berries,” this would not stop pressure being applied against the country. Western nations, Putin said, want Russia to abandon its independent foreign policies, dismantle its nuclear weapons and give away Siberian riches – a fate that only a strong Russia can avert.
